Sri Lanka's first wind farm, five 600 kW NEG Micon turbines, will be running by the end of the year, says the company's Erik Winther. The foundations at Hambantota in the south of the island are complete. Sri Lanka has good winds and a well developed grid. With hydro reserves already developed, the energy ministry estimates a potential for wind of 400 MW, says Winther. NEG Micon has further projects under development for Sri Lanka, he adds.
