A glass fibre company in South Korea, Han Kuk Glass Fibre Co Ltd, has ordered three 750 kW turbines from Lagerwey Windturbine BV of the Netherlands, strengthening the company's new found grip on markets in the Far East. Eight of the same model are currently bound for sites in Japan (see above). Both the Japanese and the South Koreans are showing "considerable interest" in Lagerwey's new gearless technology, according to the Dutch manufacturer. In South Korea, Han Kuk Fiber Glass is investigating the possibility of further projects in which the LW 50/750 could be used. Should these projects materialise a significant part of the manufacturing will be done in South Korea, says Lagerwey. The company is also negotiating further orders for Japan.
