New Zealand firm proposes huge wind farm
1 February 2002
A 70-122 MW wind farm at Sellicks Hill-Myoponga, south of Adelaide in South Australia, is being proposed by New Zealand's Wind Farm Developments Limited in conjunction with Trust Power. Up to 70 turbines will be located on the hills in and around Mount Terrible, Sellicks Hill and Mount Jeffcott. Concerns about the effect of the project on the local environment has led to community consultation, extending the project's timeline. Public consultation workshops will be finalised by April when the application is lodged with the South Australian Department of Industry and Trade. If the $200 million project is deemed to be of regional significance, it will be considered a Section 49 development, which does not allow third party appeal. If, however, the department decides the project should be processed by the local Yankalilla Council, there is scope for appeal.
