Spanish wind turbine manufacturer and developer Gamesa has confirmed its ambitions to make inroads into the British wind market with the opening of its first branch office in the UK. The company has been actively prospecting for sites in the country for some time and has a development portfolio of 400 MW in negotiations with landowners. Gamesa Energy UK moved into its new premises in Newport, south-east Wales in October. The company says the large number of projects it is pursuing in Wales, coupled with the strong backing the Welsh Assembly government is giving to the development of wind energy, contributed to its decision to locate in Newport. Gamesa's move comes less than a year after fellow Spanish company Corporacion Energía Hidroeléctrica de Navarra (CEHN) also opened its UK office in Newport.
