The first units of the 28 MW Trancoso wind farm in Portugal, under construction by the Generg Group since August, are due to be connected to the electricity network this month. The EUR 41 million project of 14 Enercon 2 MW turbines is to be fully commissioned by March. It will produce around 76 GWh a year, enough to meet the electricity needs of 32,000 households and save the burning of 29 million tonnes of coal. Under agreements with the municipal authorities of Trancoso and three neighbouring towns, Generg will pay an annual fee to them of EUR 190,000. They also have the option to acquire part of the shareholding capital of Generg. The company is currently building 78 MW of wind plant in Gardunha, Trancoso and Mosqueiros, to add to the 359.4 MW it already has operating in Carreço/Outeiro, Meadas, Vergão, Chaminé, Doninhas, Caramulo, Pinhal Interior, Gardunha, Perdigão and Mosqueiros. It is also developing hydro and solar power projects in Portugal.
