ABB ASEA BROWN BOVERY STILL INTERESTED IN WIND ENGENEERING

Despite the decision taken a year ago by ABB Asea Brown Boveri to back out of wind turbine manufacture and design, the giant international electrical engineering company nonetheless devotes no less than six pages to discussing its wind engineering experience in a recent issue of the company's house magazine. The cover photo of the June/July issue of ABB Review is also of a wind farm of Floda 600 kW turbines installed on the Golan Heights in Israel. ABB supplied the electrical equipment for the Austrian designed and made wind turbines and was also heavily involved in the project's installation. Noting the rapid growth of the wind energy market, ABB Review states: "The company is also committed to working, within the scope of its know-how and expertise, in the further development of systems, eg, for electromechanical rotor blade adjustment." The powerful international conglomerate seems not to have totally turned its back on wind power as yet.
