Government increases wind subsidies
1 January 1999
The Finnish government has increased its support to wind power by 30%. The financial injection could more than double the country's 12 MW of wind capacity this year. The industry ministry reports the price of wind is now almost comparable with the cost of coal or nuclear energy, according to news wire ENDS Environment Daily. After the coming liberalisation of the electricity market in Finland, wind is becoming more attractive. In addition to an 8 MW project at Pori (above), several other projects are reportedly in the pipeline.
