Zimbabwe creates renewables fund
1 January 1999
Zimbabwe is reported to be seeking about $5.5 million to set up a fund for renewable energy, according to the national Solar Energy Industries Association. Financial institutions are wary of renewable energy, according to the association's chairman Bulukani Masola said. So funding must be established by the association, government and other agencies -- with the help of foreign institutions -- so that companies and end-users can build projects in Zimbabwe. More than 40 companies are already involved in making, distributing, and installing solar equipment.
