Local manufacturers welcome rise in import duty on components

Indigenous manufacturers, such as NEPC India, have welcomed a budget announcement that import duty on four turbine components (sensors, flexible coupling, brake hydraulics and brake callipers) is increasing from 5% to 25%. NEPC, which formerly partnered NEG Micon, has joined forces with Germany's REpower Systems for marketing and manufacture of 750 kW and 1.5 MW turbines in India. At present, NEPC supplies 225 kW turbines only and has orders for 140, 225 kW models for installation by May 30.
