In its renewed pitch for legitimacy as a viable provider of electricity, the nuclear power industry is discovering that in wind energy it has a serious rival. Attack has been adopted as the best form of defence. Nuclear is using its considerable lobbying might to claim that it is not only better at generating electricity than wind, but can do it for far less cost. Most of the claims are highly dubious. But that has not stopped high level opinion makers in Britain (page 49) and the United States (page 50) from taking up nuclear cause.
