EDF buys German operation and maintenance firm

EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the dedicated renewables arm of French utility EDF, has bought a 28% stake in German company REETEC GmbH, which specialises in wind plant operation and maintenance (O&M). EDF EN is currently running a successful O&M division in the US through its subsidiary Enxco, but in Europe has previously relied largely on taking out maintenance contracts with turbine manufacturers. With installed operating capacity now totalling 155.5 MW in France, EDF EN has decided to move towards setting up its own O&M unit. How far it proceeds along this path and how much of its O&M load REETEC will take on remains to be seen. The details are still being worked out.
