Contracts for development of three large wind projects in Andalusia and Aragón, totalling 100 MW and worth DEM 250 million (EUR 127.8 million), have been secured by German developer Umweltkontor Renewable Energy. The company hopes to complete the projects before the end of 2002 in joint ventures with local partners. "We now have an excellent position in the much sought after Spanish wind market," enthuses Heinrich Lohmann, Unweltkontor's director. The Spanish premium payments for wind energy of ESP 10.42 (EUR 0.063/kWh) and wind speeds of 7-10 m/s promise highly economic projects and excellent results, the company says. Umweltkontor is now building up its Malaga office to help it further expand in the Spanish market, according to Lohmann.
