The UK parliament's House of Lords European Communities Select Committee has finished taking evidence in its inquiry into renewable energy in the EU. The inquiry was originally into the EC's draft proposals for a Directive on access of renewable electricity to the internal market. But with the draft's demise, it was widened to examine the economic and technological potential of renewables, based on the EC's White Paper on renewable energy. Last to give evidence were energy minister John Battle and minister for planning Richard Caborn. The committee intends to complete its report in time to contribute to the Department of Trade and Industry's ongoing renewables consultation (page 44).
