Americans buy rights to 30 MW offshore wind farm contract
1 February 2001
Enron Wind has bought the rights to a power purchase contract for a 30 MW offshore wind farm on the Gunfleet Sands around eight kilometres off the Essex coast near Clacton, a seaside resort about 100 kilometres north east of London. The company acquired the Non Fossil-Fuel Obligation contract, wind data and site investigation information from Windmaster Developments Limited in early autumn. But Enron stresses that any future decision on development of the site depends on permitting and acquisition of land rights. The Department of Trade and Industry is soon to release proposals for a co-ordinated consenting process for offshore wind farms.
