Turbine maker AAER erects second turbine in US

Fledgling Canadian turbine maker AAER Inc now has two of its 1.5 MW units operating and a visible presence on both US coasts. The company, based in Quebec, completed installation of an A-1500 turbine for the town of Portsmouth in Rhode Island in March. AAER's first turbine was erected at the US Marine Corps Logistics base in Barstow, California, earlier the same month. AAER began production at its Bromont, Quebec, plant in the third quarter of 2008. It is still working on finalising its first major sale and recently extended a reservation agreement it has with Mont Louis Wind LP for 61 of its 1.65 MW turbines (Windpower Monthly, September 2008). CEO Dave Gagnon says the two parties are finalising technical details in what is proving to be a "complex and time-consuming" process. Much of the complexity comes from requirements for a large part of the content of the project to be made locally, as imposed by Hydro-Quebec, the utility purchasing its output.
