Scottish Power promises for renewables in Oregon

Scotland utility ScottishPower says that if its proposed merger with PacifiCorp of Portland, Oregon, is approved, it will develop 50 MW of renewable resources, offer a green pricing program, and contribute $100,000 to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation for new renewable resource development. The merged company would generate 5-10% of the new renewable energy in the US, says Alan Richardson, who will be chief executive officer of PacifiCorp if the merger is approved. "That's five times the average commitment. And PacifiCorp serves 1% of the US customer base," he says. ScottishPower would invest $60 million in the next five years to develop wind, solar or geothermal resources, the company says. ScottishPower has 92 MW of wind power capacity on-line in the UK, according to PacifiCorp press release. Public utility commissions in five US states are now reviewing PacifiCorp's and ScottishPower's application to merge the companies
