Patagonia store goes 100% wind powered

One of America's leading outdoors companies is to buy all of the power used at its California facilities from a new 16 MW wind plant being built by Enron Wind Corp near Palm Springs in Riverside County. Patagonia Inc makes outdoors clothing and other equipment. It will become the first sizeable company in the state to buy 100% wind energy. Construction of the wind plant began in May and it should be on-line in January. "We see renewables leading the way to a healthier more productive economy and we are proud to support this growing industry," says Patagonia's CEO, David Olsen. The company will buy about 1 million kWh yearly for 14 buildings.
