Gamesa builds inroads into China developing up to 250 MW

Spain's Gamesa Energía is to develop up to 250 MW of wind plant across three municipalities in China's Shandong province after signing an agreement with the provincial government. The company expects to invest around EUR 280 million in projects in the municipalities of Yishu, Boshan and Yiguan. The deal "represents the group's largest commitment to date for developing wind plant in China," says Gamesa. The Shandong authorities, meanwhile, are considering expanding the concession granted Gamesa to include future development in other municipalities in the province. The success in Shandong follows a EUR 240 million, 511 MW turbine supply contract in China for Gamesa's turbine manufacturing division, Gamesa Eólica. It will supply the machines from its new facility in Tianjin to China's Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation, a division of state power generator China Guordian Corporation. The Tianjin factory will also supply the Shandong projects. According to a source at Gamesa, most of the Shandong concession will be built within two years.
