At a recent conference on biomass energy systems organised in New Delhi by the Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI) and the British High Commission, fears were expressed at the high level of foreign investment in wind energy. This, it was claimed, could reduce the use of agricultural and forestry as energy sources. As a result the decades old biomass fuel industry would wither away under the onslaught of foreign investment in wind energy projects. The response was sceptical.
