High profile contracts sharpen Dutch green market

Google Translate

The signing of two high profile green power contracts in recent weeks has sharpened the focus on Holland's green electricity market. In mid February the lower chamber of the Dutch parliament agreed to buy 1.7 million kWh of renewables power from Rotterdam utility ENECO, enough to meet 40% of the power used in the parliamentary buildings during 1999. ENECO already supplies some 40,000 households and 40 major clients with green power. Not to be left out, Arnhem utility NUON concluded a similarly high profile deal with the provincial authorities in Gelderland. Under a ten year contract, NUON is to provide the local government in Gelderland with half its electricity from renewable resources for this year. From next year the provincial authorities aim to go completely green at an additional cost to the taxpayer of some NLG 150,000.
