Saxony halts wind support

The state of Saxony has followed Rhineland Palatinate and called a halt to its wind energy support programme. Saxony's Economy Ministry pulled down the shutters on August 1, declaring that the coffers of its wind programme were empty. Around DEM 11 million was available in Saxony for supporting renewable energy development in 1996, of which around DEM 2 million was earmarked for wind. Rhineland Palatinate refused further applications for wind support for 1996 at the beginning of April. This year, 22 turbines with a total rated capacity of 9 MW will have been granted cash by the Rheinland Palatinate government.
