The 40 metre vessel, named La Cour after Danish wind veteran Poul la Cour, began its mission late last month. On board there are facilities for immediate evaluation of surveys of birds and marine fauna and laboratories for analysis of water and seabed samples. "The ship is scheduled for 160 days of operations this year alone," says Energiekontor, which is based in Bremen-Brinkum.
German wind developer Energiekontor has acquired a ship from which it will carry out environmental investigations for its two planned offshore wind projects, the up to 380 MW Nordergründe development and the around 1800 MW planned for Borkum Riffgrund West, both in the North Sea. Planning procedures require "a multitude of investigations" and with its ship, Energiekontor has "the necessary independence to carry these out."
