BWEA adds wave and tidal technologies to wind promotion

The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) is to promote wave and tidal technologies alongside its core role of promoting wind energy. Under an agreement between BWEA and Seapower Europe -- the organisation that currently represents Britain's marine renewable industry -- Seapower's membership will join BWEA's members to form a single association. "Offshore wind, wave and marine tidal and current technologies share many similar features," says Marcus Rand, BWEA's chief executive. "We are confident that we can bring our 25 years of experience to help capitalise their further development and deployment." From Seapower, John Griffiths says BWEA is the natural home for the organisation's members. "BWEA's vast wealth of experience will be of great benefit to our existing membership." The combined association, which will still be known as BWEA, is to be launched at the BWEA annual conference held in Glasgow in October.
