Megawatt wind turbines are fast becoming the norm on the German market. Nordex Balcke-Dürr has 42 MW of wind projects scheduled for the next nine months using its 1 MW machine. In September the first five of a total of nine Nordex 54 1 MW units will be installed on a former lignite tip at Halde Nierchen between Cologne and Aachen for the company Energiekontor. The four remaining units will go in the ground by the end of the year. Electricity will be sold to VEW Energie. In a second large project, eight N54 turbines will be installed for Bürgerwindpark Behrendorf, made up of a number of individual investors, with power sold to Schleswag. And at Holssel near Bremerhaven in the first quarter of 1998, 25 N54 units will be installed, also for Energiekontor, which is based in Bremerhaven. Power will be fed into the grid of the regional utility Uberlandwerk Nord-Hannover.
