First turbine goes up at Challicum Hills

The first of 35 wind turbines which will power the 52.5 MW Challicum Hills Wind Farm, near Ararat in Victoria, has been installed. Construction of the wind farm, being developed by Pacific Hydro, is due to be completed by mid 2003. The wind farm will produce enough electricity to meet the equivalent energy needs of 25,000 average Victorian homes and, in the process, avoid over 180,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
