National utility starts countdown to MW threshold for payment of premium prices

Somewhat prematurely perhaps, France's national utility Electricité de France, has begun a website countdown to the installed megawatt threshold after which wind power producers will no longer benefit from the favourable wind tariff. Under the terms of a decree passed in June 2001, only the first 1500 MW of wind generation is eligible for the premium rate. After that a less advantageous pricing regime will operate. But with only 27.4 MW installed under the tariff so far and France's entire wind generation totally only recently creeping above 150 MW, it will be some time before producers will need to check the site total before submitting project plans.
