50 MW plant development for South Australia's Eyre Peninsula

Melbourne-based Ausker Energies, an associate company of the ABAN Group, and ANZ Infrastructure Services will jointly develop a 50 MW wind plant at Tungketta Hill on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. The A$65-$75 million project has planning approval and will start construction in March, pending the successful outcome of discussions with transmission company Electranet. New transmission lines are needed for any wind project planned for the region, a considerable added cost. For this project the current proposal is for 100 kilometres of 132 kV transmission, costing Ausker Energies A$2.6 million in line rental each year for the life of the project. If other wind developments are approved for the region, "cost sharing" for line usage could decrease rental costs. Ausker Energies is planning a 60 MW second phase of the project which is currently being investigated for a second site.
