American utilities say they will spend less over the next two years on new power plant, but construction will still amount to a mind boggling $65.6 billion by 1997. A report by Edison Electric Institute also reveals that coal will be the top-funded technology. If inflation is accounted for, the projected spending is half of the level for 1984.
