Two pre-production models of the KVS-45, Kenetech Windpower's new wind turbine, will be installed soon in Texas, possibly next month. The turbines, described by the company as merely being a larger version of its existing variable-speed technology, are on tubular towers. The 75 foot blades -- the rotor is actually 46 metres -- have already been manufactured at TPI Inc in Rhode Island in the northeastern US, which has regularly supplied blades to Kenetech. The generator and transmission is made in Milwaukee.
