Nordex clinch China deal as market expands
1 September 2001
The Liaoning Tianlin Wind Power Investment Company has ordered 12, 800 kW wind turbines from Nordex in a deal worth DEM 10 million. The turbines, to be imported by Liaoning Chuangye Group Import & Export Company through the port of Dalian, are destined for a wind station at Liaoning Faku, near Tianlin in southeast China. The towers and infrastructure will be supplied by local companies. "The contract is especially important because the Chinese market is expected to expand by 300% over the next five years," according to Nordex chairman, Dietmar Kestner. The turbines will be supplied from the Nordex works in Denmark. In China, Nordex has a marketing office, a service subsidiary and a 40% stake in a joint venture with two companies, Xian Aeroengine Corporation and China Aviation Industry Gas Turbine Corporation with 10%. The joint venture has a licence for the production of N-43 600 kW turbines for China. The first machine was built last autumn but series production is not yet underway.
