Canadian NaiKun Wind Energy Group, a Vancouver wind project developer, and the Council of the Haida Nation have formed a limited partnership that will operate and maintain a proposed offshore wind energy project after construction. The project site is the Hecate Strait between the Queen Charlotte Islands, the traditional territory of the Haida people, and the British Columbia mainland. "We fully believe that, subject to confirmation of environmental feasibility, this offshore project will bring significant long term benefits to the Haida Nation. For these reasons we are proud to be participants in the project," says Guujaaw, President of the Haida Nation. NaiKun bid the 320 MW wind farm into a call for proposals for clean power issued by the British Columbia utility. The project, which will consist of 67-110 turbines, is the first phase of a planned 1750 MW installation. The utility is considering responses to its call.
