Nine per cent of Ireland's electricity now comes from renewable energy, enough for 600,000 homes, says Eirgrid, the state company that manages the national grid. Of the 1034 MW of renewables capacity, wind accounts for 781 MW. Eirgrid says that another 450 MW of wind plant is due online by the end of this year, by which time it expects to have signed deals to connect a further 1300 MW.
