Construction begins on 108 MW off coast of Holland

After years in planning, construction on the EUR 200 million 108 MW Egmond aan Zee offshore wind farm in the Netherlands has got underway. The project is being developed by Noordzee Wind, a joint venture between Shell and Dutch utility Nuon, with construction being carried out by Bouwcombinatie Egmond, a partnership between Ballast Nedam and Vestas. Once the foundations are laid, installation of the 36 Vestas wind turbines will start during the summer with all work set to be completed in the autumn. The wind farm, which will generate enough electricity for 100,000 households, is due to become operational this winter. The electricity generated will be sold to Nuon.
