ONTARIO ESTABLISHES ADVISORY COMMITEE FOR COMPETITION
1 January 1996
In order to promote restructuring of the province's electricity supply industry, the Ontario government has established an Advisory Committee on Competition in Ontario's Electricity System. The blue ribbon committee, chaired by Donald MacDonald, a former Canadian energy minister, is charged with evaluating options for phasing competition into Ontario's electric utility industry in three areas: structural changes to the industry, regulatory reform to ensure a healthy competitive environment, and introduction of private equity in the electric utility sector. The committee will report in the spring.
