Wind not affected by national utility's partial privatisation
1 April 2005
The partial privatisation of French national utility EDF is not expected to have any immediate impact on the wind industry in France. Following last year's liberalisation of the French electricity market, the government has announced the sale of around 30% of EDF. On the other hand, the open market now allows companies and professional clients to choose their electricity supplier. An increasing number are opting for the green energy options offered by EDF and its competitors, including Poweo, Direct Énergie and Electrabel. While most supply hydro electric power, the trend should benefit wind energy in the longer term.
