Kenetech is selling its 30 MW wind farm at Tarifa, expected on line in the Autumn, to KW Tarifa for ESP 6.6 billion. KW Tarifa is a limited partnership made up of American Louisville Gas & Electricity Power (45%), Spanish construction companies, Entrecanales y Tavora and Cubiertas (45%), and the Spanish Sevillana utility (9%), says Kenetech's Bud Grebey. Kenetech plans to keep a symbolic 1% share. Despite selling the project, the company will honour an agreement with the Andalusian environmental agency for reforestation of Tarifa's scarred nature park where the wind farm is, assures Michael Hass, the firm's European head. Reforestation is needed to reverse the threat of desertification precipitated by forest fires and a five year drought. The agreement -- to be revised every year -- also provides for Kenetech to supply some $4200 to an existing bird "hospital" for raptors and other species in the Tarifa area where several dozen vultures have collided with wind turbines. Another $15,000 from Kenetech will go towards a guide on migratory bird fauna. Haas also said data collected by the firm's experts on migratory bird patterns in Tarifa using a mobile radar system would be handed over to the authorities.
