Wind potential newly mapped

The wind energy potential in Switzerland amounts to 1600 GWh a year according to a recent study on wind power and landscape protection. Potential areas for the use of wind energy were pinpointed taking into account wind speeds and criteria for landscape protection. Commissioned by the federal energy office, the Bundesamt für Energie, the work was carried out by Arbeitsgemeinschaft ENCO of Liestal, Meteotest in Bern and Oekoscop, based in Gelterkinden. The study and wind map are available from Infostelle Wind, Aarau in Switzerland.
