Local consent granted for Hydro Tasmania's 130 MW Musselroe wind farm

Hydro Tasmania's 130 MW Musselroe wind farm is a step closer to reality following local council consent. "The project has now received state and local government approval and based on our comprehensive environmental work on bird issues, we look forward to receiving federal government approval early in 2005," says the company's Mark Kelleher. The A$230 million project will be developed at Little Musselroe Bay, 100 kilometres north-east of Launceston. Around 200 jobs will be created during the construction phase and, when completed, the wind farm will supply enough electricity to power 50,000 homes. "We expect the flow-on benefits to the local community over the life of the wind farm to be around A$50 million," Kelleher adds.
