The largest offtake deal of its kind for a British wind project has been agreed between EDF Energy and Fred Olsen Renewables allowing construction of the 117 MW Crystal Rig II wind farm to proceed. Under the deal, EDF will buy all the power, green certificates and related products from the wind farm. EDF claims it is the largest offtake deal between an independent developer and a large vertically-integrated utility. Siemens was lined up in November to supply the turbines and site construction begins this month. The project is an extension of the existing 62.5 MW wind farm of 25 Nordex turbines sited in the Lammermuir Hills, south-east of Edinburgh. First electricity is expected in 2009 with completion mid 2010.
