Reassurance from new government over use of renewables

Fears that India's newly elected government may backtrack on plans for increasing the country's use of renewable energy have been calmed by Vilas Muttemwar, new minister for non-conventional energy sources. He wants renewables providing electricity to around 25,000 villages by 2012, he says, confirming the previous government's target. Significantly, he calls for greater exploitation of wind power, noting India has a huge untapped potential.
