The event is being organised by Husum Speicher, one of the most active social and cultural centres in Schleswig Holstein. The federal and Schleswig-Holstein governments are sponsoring the event, along with six wind turbine manufacturers who have each "adopted" an artist to support. "Husum is particularly suitable for tackling the theme of wind as it lies directly on the coast and boasts a wide variety of landscapes and building structures. The wind blows strongly here and it is often stormy -- when it doesn't blow you have the feeling the world is holding its breath," says Husum Speicher.
This summer an unusual wind art symposium, dubbed "Windfang," is to be held in Husum, more commonly known as that "little grey town" on the coast of Schleswig-Holstein than as a cultural Mecca. In wind circles Husum is also better known as host to the traditional German wind energy trade fair and conference, which takes place immediately after Windfang, from September 13-17. Windfang, from August 26 to September 17, will be a three week-long wind experience with a mix of wind art and sculpture, theatre, cinema and music including an evening offshore "music installation."
