Contractor selected for new wind plant

Vestas-Australian Wind Technology Pty Ltd has been selected as the preferred contractor for the 70 MW Lake Bonney Stage 1 wind farm in South Australia. Owners Babcock and Brown and National Power are negotiating a A$100 million turnkey contract with Vestas. The Danish company will develop the project in conjunction with Leighton Contractors, an established Australian construction company. Stage 1 is to be complete by mid 2003, with the A$150 million Lake Bonney Stage 2 project following three to six months later. The pre-selection puts Vestas in a strong position to win further Babcock and Brown tenders.
