PowerWind and Libeccio, which is controlled by Milan-based Wes Management, indicate they plan to cooperate again on more projects and PowerWind expects Italy will be one of its most important markets. The firm says negotiations are under way with other potential Italian clients. Two PowerWind turbines are also scheduled to be erected in Romania this month on a project for which details have not been released.
PowerWind was founded in 2007 as Conergy Wind and emerged in its current form after private equity firm Warburg Pincus acquired the unit from German renewable energy player Conergy in October. One of three PowerWind 900 kW prototypes was installed in Italy in October 2007 ahead of the beginning of serial production of the variable-speed, pitch-controlled turbine in January 2008. For its part, Libeccio is developing wind farms in Italy with a combined expected capacity of 360 MW.
