Inner Mongolia reaches 1000 MW milestone

The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is celebrating a 1000 MW milestone. Shortage of funds, technology, and equipment had previously restricted development in the wind rich region, which by end 2005 had just 170 MW installed. By the end of 2006 that had risen to 600 MW, or 23.2% of the country's total wind capacity, with Inner Mongolia replacing Xinjiang to become the regional wind champion in China. The provincial government hopes to expand its capacity from over 1200 MW at the end of 2007 to 5000 MW by 2010.
