Energiekontor developing abroad

German Energiekontor is about to start construction of wind stations in Greece and Portugal and is developing projects in Spain and Britain. The company expects to install about 40 turbines (20 MW) on foreign soil next year. In Germany, Energiekontor has about 60 MW at various stages of planning. Founded in Stuhr near Bremen in 1990, it claims to be the leading wind station operator in Germany. By the end of the year the company will have 24 wind stations (156 turbines) with a combined capacity of 140 MW, installed at a cost of DEM 370 million (EUR 189.2 million), it says. Energiekontor's wind output is sufficient to cover the needs of a medium sized town such as Kiel with some 190,000 inhabitants, says the company.
