The Austrian wind lobby, IG Windkraft, has joined forces with others campaigning against the country's annual EUR 40 million contribution to the European nuclear organisation, Euratom. "It is not in order that Austria, whose population rejects nuclear power, pays twice as much to the European nuclear industry than to support clean wind power." Just EUR 24 million is allocated by Austria's government to support wind energy, which currently supplies the equivalent power needs of 18% of households in the country, says IG Windkraft. The organisation has joined anti-nuclear campaign Austria Out of Euratom, set up by nuclear protestors in Upper Austria.
