Second HSW prototype
Husumer Schiffswerft (HSW) installed its second 600 kW turbine prototype at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog wind test station in September. The first prototype was destroyed in an accident in April that also killed a technician (Windpower Monthly, May 1997). Tests on the new prototype are taking longer than expected due to low winds. HSW, a ship building company with a growing wind turbine division, is marketing the machine with another turbine manufacturer, Jacobs Energie of Heide, says Winfried Gerold of HSW. Meanwhile, HSW expects to install 11, 1 MW turbines in 1997. Five of these will be sited in Ireland in a joint project with an Irish shipyard. Another four will go to Luxembourg.
