ESB NOT AMONG THE SUCCESSFUL AER CANDIDATES
1 May 1995
Surprisingly, Ireland's main utility, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), was not among the successful AER candidates. ESB has links with US wind plant developer Kenetech through ESB International. It is widely rumoured that ESB submitted proposals under the scheme, but neither the utility nor the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications, which awarded the power purchase agreements, will discuss the issue. A division of the ESB, the power procurement division, under the management of Liam O Donnell, carried out the initial examination of the proposals under the AER and the independent consultant on the scheme was the UK government's Energy Technology Support Unit (ETSU).
