Greenpeace files petition urging states to buy more wind power
1 February 2005
Environmental pressure group Greenpeace is urging Indian states to procure at least 10% of their electricity each year from renewable energy sources. As part of its Choose Positive Energy Campaign, Greenpeace India has already filed a petition with the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission to direct companies to purchase 10% of their power needs from renewables. It proposes to file similar petitions in other states, with emphasis placed on those identified as having the best potential for renewable energy. These include Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Gujarat.
