German turbines ordered for 90 MW nearshore wind project

German wind project developer Energiekontor's 90 MW nearshore wind project Nordergünde has taken a decisive step forward with the signing of an 18 turbine supply contract with Repower Systems. The machines will be made at Repower's new assembly works in Bremerhaven and will be supplied and installed from April next year in the River Weser estuary north of Wilhelmshaven where wind speeds average 9.8 m/s at hub height. Investment including foundations, offshore voltage transformer station and wind station cabling is over EUR 300 million, says Energiekontor. It will be one of the first German offshore projects and the first using 5 MW turbines to be financed by bank loans, says Energiekontor. Dutch bank NIBC agreed to takeover the financing in July 2007.
